Suicide Rates Going Up
In 2022, the US witnessed a record high of 49,449 suicide deaths, a 10% increase over two years. Experts stress the need to destigmatize mental health issues and promote open conversations about suicide. Removing access to potential means of self-harm, providing emotional support, and ensuring follow-up care for at-risk individuals are crucial steps. The rise in gun-related suicides, particularly among white men and older individuals, has significantly contributed to the overall increase.

The Remnant’s Response:
Epidemics of despair are a form of judgment on a land (Deuteronomy 28:28-29, 66-67). A land filled with despair is filled with people not filled with the Holy Spirit. A land not filled with the Holy Spirit is a land that is absent of people of faith. One of the reasons our country has lost its soul is because pastors have abandoned their posts. We are a land with many failed shepherds (Ezekiel 34). A recent study reported that almost 70% of Americans still adopt the Christian label to identify their faith while acknowledging that this profession of belief exists without biblical truth or practice. We desperately need the remnant, full of true faith and hope, to rise up and boldly declare the message of repentance, redemption (1 Peter 3:15-16), and peace that follows a return to the ancient paths (Jeremiah 6:16).
"The Lord is near to the broken-hearted," and believers are meant to be the hands and feet of His nearness (Colossians 1:24-27). Our world is full of loneliness, anxiety, despair, and need, which means it is 'ripe for the harvest,' and it is long past time to get to work (John 4:35-36). It is too late for 49,449 to find the comfort the Lord desires for them, but there are millions more praying today that God shows Himself real and near to them. "Anxiety in a man's heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad" (Proverbs 12:25). Will you be His hands and feet and the one who gives the "good word" of the resurrection to others today?
Maui Fires Update
The historic Hawaiian town of Lahaina has been ravaged by the most deadly wildfire in US history, as the death toll tragically climbs to 96 and is expected to increase as search and rescue efforts continue. Though the exact origin and cause remain unknown, much of Hawaii had been under a red flag warning for extreme fire danger. Experts say a perilous combination of dry conditions, strong winds, and drought-stricken vegetation fueled the ferocity of the flames. Thousands were evacuated from Lahaina as the fire bore down, with hundreds losing their homes, livelihoods, and loved ones. Though the Lahaina blaze is reportedly mostly contained, several uncontrolled fires continue to burn in regions of Maui.

The Remnant’s Response:
Natural disasters are part of living in a fallen, sinful world - God's perfect creation was corrupted by human sin, and it now suffers the effects (Genesis 3, Romans 8:20-21). As believers, we can take comfort that God is sovereign over all things, including natural disasters (Psalm 135:5-6), even as we don't fully understand His larger purposes or see the complete picture (Deuteronomy 29:29). While Scripture contains examples of natural disasters acting as instruments of God's judgment on sin, we must be careful not to make direct attributions without wisdom and discernment (Job 42:7-17). We can be assured that God takes no delight in our suffering and weeps with us in our loss (John 11:35). When His creation suffers, He is filled with compassion towards those enduring hardship and loss (Matthew 14:14). In somber moments like these, natural disasters remind us of our fragility and the need for God, as well as our ability to rely on Him rather than ourselves (2 Corinthians 1:8-9). As believers, we should respond to disasters with prayer, aid, and enduring hope in God's power and plan to ultimately restore creation (Revelation 21:1-5). Our trusted friends at Eternal Perspective Ministries have vetted some ministries worth supporting if you are stirred to help our Hawaiian family.

SBF To Jail
FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried's bail has been revoked, and the U.S. Marshals have taken him into custody as per Judge Lewis A. Kaplan's decision. Bankman-Fried's lawyers are appealing. He'll await trial at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. Prosecutors raised concerns about his sharing of private documents related to a witness in his case, which ultimately led to revocation of bail. Bankman-Fried faces charges, including fraud and conspiracy, linked to FTX's collapse.

The Remnant’s Response:
While justice doesn’t always come quickly on earth, wise men know that justice will come. Delays in justice often lead to delays in repentance among fools (Ecclesiastes 8:11). May it never be said that the remnant is foolish. We are not promised that evil men will be punished on earth (Psalm 73:3-5), but we are reminded that they will meet their end. No amount of crypto riches will help them in the crypt (Proverbs 11:4). If we are not careful to remember the holiness of God (Psalm 73:17-20), we will lose our way and fail in our calling (Psalm 73:21-22). Remember, “…there will be no future for the evil man; The lamp of the wicked will be put out” (Proverbs 24:20), and our job today is to walk in wisdom and call men to the throne of grace while there is still time (2 Corinthians 6:1-3).
