Big Pharma Podcast, Data, News, and Transparency

“Christians might avoid much trouble and inconvenience if they would only believe what they profess: that God is able to make them happy without anything else.”

Edward Payson

Food, Big Pharma, and Tucker Carlson

Tucker Carlson sat down for a two-hour podcast with Dr. Casey Means and her brother Calley. Casey is a successful Ivy League-educated surgeon, and Casey was a former lobbyist for pharma and the food industry. During the interview, they discussed everything from America’s obesity, diabetes, and chronic health crisis to the darker side of the pharmaceutical industry to Obamacare and our own personal diets. The revealing 2-hour podcast has nearly 2M views.

When important information is credibly, clearly, and boldly shared, it is worth sharing (1 Thessalonians 5:21). Carlson shared his platform with the Means siblings (who were notably raised by Christian parents) (Proverbs 22:6), highly educated, experienced, and credible authorities in their various fields (Proverbs 18:16). In their two-hour conversation they share information that is well worth our consideration, primarily their call to take personal ownership of your health, (1 Corinthians 3:16) and their passion for us to be informed about the “behind the scenes” players that are dramatically impacting our health, the health of our neighbors, and America’s national financial and physical well-being (Ephesians 5:11).

We are called to treat our bodies like temples, “single-issue units,” dwelling places for the very Spirit of God (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). We are called to steward these “units” with great care, and in this case, and in our nation in particular, that requires some education and, admittedly, sacrifice when it comes to application. While caring for our bodies may pale in comparison to the importance of our pursuit of Christlikeness (1 Corinthians 4:7), nowhere are we encouraged to be indifferent to the care of our soul’s earthly home.  The Means shine a light on the dark reality that in America, money has served as the root of a great many evils (1 Timothy 6:10) and elaborate specifically on how that has played an integral part in our cheapest foods being our most addictive, our growing rampant dependency on and abuse of pharmaceuticals, and the effect of all this on infertility, chronic disease, and childhood illness and an all-time high level of obesity.

At the Remnant News, we want to share what we read, listen to, or watch that educates, inspires us, and/or challenges our thinking, especially to more faithful or fruitful living. I recommend finding the time to listen and dialoguing with those in your life about how we can excel still more (1 Thessalonians 4:1) in caring for ourselves and others who live in our nation.

Data, News, and Transparency

The internet was initially expected to bring unprecedented transparency to news consumption, but it has become more muddled than ever. Platforms like Meta, TikTok, X, and Reddit are now hoarding data to avoid scrutiny over how their algorithms work, severely limiting the ability to measure digital news engagement accurately. Originally celebrated for its transparency, CrowdTangle became problematic for Meta when journalists used it to highlight potential biases in Facebook’s algorithms. As platforms restrict data access, tracking content trends has become increasingly difficult, further complicated by the rise of private groups and encrypted messaging. While tools like Google Trends still offer some insights, the overall picture remains fragmented.

While "Big Tech" might be muddying the waters on how they track data concerning our digital news consumption, the God of the universe knows not just every hair on our head but every video we watch and article we read (Matthew 10:30, Hebrews 4:13).

We believe staying informed is important, but not nearly as important as being "transformed" by the renewing of your mind so that your lives will prove in both word and deed all that is good and acceptable and perfect" (Romans 12:2).

We pray the Holy Spirit uses our efforts to encourage and equip the remnant to not only be aware of the times but, like the sons of Issachar, to be able to understand and speak into them (1 Chronicles 12:32).

We work diligently (2 Timothy 2:15) to do our part to build into our readers so they would  "no longer be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming; but speaking the truth in love, we aspire to see every reader grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ," (Ephesians 4:14-15).

For this purpose, we labor (Colossians 1:29) so that there is an ever-increasing number of faithful men and women who:

1. Contend for the faith once delivered to the saints (Jude 1:3).

2. Are not conformed to the patterns of this world but are being transformed by the renewing of our minds (Romans 12:2).

3. Faithfully test the spirits of our age (1 John 4:1).

4. Think beyond today's news and about eternal things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and praiseworthy (Philippians 4:8).

5. Are encouraged and comforted that not every knee has bent to the idols of our day (1 Kings 19:18).

Our mission is to do much more than briefly summarize relevant and important news stories of the day. We seek to faithfully guide you in approaching every decision with biblical wisdom and use that wisdom to honor God in all we do and think. We prioritize truth (with an emphasis on eternal truth and its principles as revealed in God's Word) over both partisanship and or neutrality (Proverbs 23:23, Proverbs 29:25). We purpose to be servants of Christ and stewards of the Word of God in sharing our responses (2 Corinthians 4:1).

We are thankful for everyone who joins us in believing in this mission and especially want to express our gratitude to those of you who are evangelists with us in both sharing the Remnant News with others (don't be shy in sharing your referral code) and for the way so many of you share this mission with your daily lives. We pray for our readers and ask that our readers continually pray for our team (1 Thessalonians 5:25).
