“Nonbinary” Student dies, National Network Outage, More Student Debt Forgiven

O people of God, be great believers! Little faith will bring your souls to heaven, but great faith will bring heaven to your souls.

“Nonbinary” Student Dies in Oklahoma

Officials in Owasso, Oklahoma, are investigating the death of a “nonbinary” student following a physical altercation at her public high school.

Owasso Police have stated that while the autopsy indicates no trauma-related cause, they are awaiting full toxicology results, to determine the cause of death. The incident has sparked calls for accountability and investigations into the school's response.

Advocacy groups quickly reported on the incident, with several misrepresenting the facts, claiming the tragic death was a consequence of discriminatory legislation in Oklahoma that targets transgender and nonbinary individuals.

While all the facts are not yet clear in this story (police are waiting for toxicology and autopsy results and have been unwilling to “make any rash conclusions about the cause of death”), we do know that yet another one of our children has died too young. Meanwhile, there are some inviolable truths that must be embraced unless we want to keep losing more of our children.

  1. Thankfully, we still live in a world where bullying, depression, suicide, hate, and murder are considered evil (Isaiah 5:20).

  2. Tragically, we live in a world where denying reality is a consistent problem (Romans 1:21-22).

  3. When the remnant does not speak up, the world increasingly abandons appropriate standards of good and evil (Ephesians 5:11).

  4. Mental illness should be addressed with adult compassion, not adult acceptance (2 Timothy 2:24-26).

  5. When a man/boy believes they are a woman/girl (and vice versa), it is a form of mental illness (Romans 12:2, Proverbs 3:5-6).

  6. When someone believes they are “non-binary,” they should not be attacked; they should be helped. Letting an individual identify as a member of the opposite gender so they can share bathrooms, compete against, and shower with members of the opposite sex is not helping them (Proverbs 24:11-12). (Note: the young woman who lost her life in this story was in a bathroom consistent with her gender when she was in the altercation at school.)

  7. When adults don’t lead and speak out on obvious truths (like the certain biological distinction of male and female and healthy sexual norms), children are exasperated, feel helpless, trapped, abandoned, depressed, and provoked- all of which leads to more mental illness, more despair, more self-harm, and more violence (Ephesians 6:4).

  8. The fact that many who call themselves “Christian” do not whole-heartedly agree with the above statements is evidence that not all who call themselves Christian are a part of God’s remnant (Matthew 15:8).

  9. The remnant is called to be salt and light. When it fails to speak the Truth with clarity and unyielding conviction, the world will quickly decay and grow dark (Matthew 5:13-16).

  10. When a compromised world reports on these stories without sharing all the factsincluding the facts shared in 1-9 above, they quickly become propaganda pieces designed to weaken the remnant’s resolve to speak the Truth in love (Isaiah 8:12).

  11. When the remnant does not speak up, the world will increasingly abandon appropriate standards of good and evil; the remnant will be held accountable (Proverbs 24:11-12). Children will suffer, and destruction will increase (Hosea 4:1-6).

National Network Outage

AT&T experienced a widespread network outage Thursday morning, affecting customers nationwide. Users reported being unable to make calls, send texts, or access the internet. While Verizon and T-Mobile also saw minor disruptions, they remained largely operational. T-Mobile and Verizon clarified their networks were unaffected, suggesting issues were specific to AT&T. AT&T acknowledged the outage but offered no explanation for the system failure. The extent and cause of the disruption remains under investigation.

While only some were affected by the outage, all of us can be blessed to be reminded that the world we live in is a fragile and unpredictable one (Proverbs 27:1). With the modern technologies that are so widely utilized, our customary modes of operation can drastically change in an instant (James 4:13, 15).

The question we must ask ourselves is, “When these technologies, and the conveniences they offer us, do not function like we hope… what will be our response?” Fear? Anger? Frustration? Or readiness (Luke 12:22-26)?

The remnant is called, in everything, to give thanks (1 Thessalonians 5:18), to trust while others collapse with fear (Isaiah 41:10), to be slow to anger in the midst of trials (James 1:19), and to be strong when times weaken most men (Proverbs 24:10). Our ability to execute during testing is directly related to our ability to abide with the One who supplies all our needs (Philippians 4:19). He is our only reliable “rock of refuge” (Psalm 94:22). His character and His promises are our only “strong tower” (Proverbs 18:10) that we can reliably run to when our unreliable world shakes (Psalm 46:1-3).

Student Debt Forgiveness Cont.

The Biden administration plans to forgive $1.2 billion in student loan debt for nearly 153,000 people enrolled in the SAVE repayment program. This initiative, aimed at borrowers who have been repaying loans for at least ten years and have debts of $12,000 or less, is part of a broader effort to expand income-based repayment options. Critics argue that these actions are politically motivated attempts to regain support, while legal experts question the constitutionality of executive actions bypassing Congress. Despite the Supreme Court's rejection of Biden's previous debt-cancellation order, the President stated, "The Supreme Court blocked it. But that didn't stop me."

While the Bible may not directly address modern fiscal policy, its wisdom on debt remains profoundly relevant. Proverbs 22:7 warns of the enslaving nature of indebtedness, while Psalm 37:21 emphasizes the importance of honoring financial commitments. Debt forgiveness, while noble, warrants scrutiny when it shifts burdens from willing participants to those who did not willingly incur the debt. We must also discern whether such actions reflect genuine compassion or mere political expediency. Moreover, overlooking constitutional checks and balances, including SCOTUS decisions, ought to raise significant concerns (Proverbs 18:1). As believers, our call to forgive extends beyond material matters (Matthew 6:12), but willingness to forgive is not incompatible with an appropriate commitment to hold others accountable (Matthew 18:15-17).
