Tucker Sits Down with Putin

In a highly anticipated two-hour interview, Tucker Carlson engaged with Vladimir Putin, marking the first time the reclusive Russian leader had spoken with a Western media outlet since the invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Carlson's softer approach contrasted with his previous criticisms of US support for Ukraine, while Putin blamed Western influence for prolonging the conflict. The interview addressed various topics, including the detention of a Wall Street Journal reporter accused of espionage, with Putin alleging US involvement. Despite Carlson's claim of filling an information void, critics voiced concerns over his platforming of Putin's narrative amidst Russia's crackdown on press freedoms.

Our greatest need is our need for Truth. The greatest Truth that we can know will not come out of an interview with Vladimir Putin, but from our attentiveness to the revelation provided for us by a loving Father in God’s Word (John 17:3; 17:17). Kings and conflicts will come and go, but the Word of God stands forever (Psalm 2:10-12). Mr. Carlson said he went to Russia and pursued the interview because he wants America to remain prosperous and free; the Lord shares this passion for us and directs us back to His Word for that to ultimately happen (Joshua 1:8). Even as Carlson observed that governments like to suppress information they cannot control, you can be sure the enemy of your soul seeks to suppress the truth that can set you free (John 8:32; 10:10).

Meanwhile, Tucker gave sound advice for all of us before he released the interview. Learn as much as you can (Proverbs 4:7). Be discerning as you listen to others (Proverbs 14:15). Don’t be a slave to others' ideas; seek wisdom for yourself (Proverbs 4:23-27).

The remnant team is praying for you as you process Putin’s, Zelensky’s, Biden’s, and even your pastor’s Words (Acts 17:11). This world is full of propaganda, deceit, and lies. Seek wisdom. Seek understanding (Proverbs 4:5). Thank the Lord for the freedom He has given you to process information and make decisions for yourself (Romans 14:12). Ask Him to help you (Matthew 7:7-8). Remember: “If you are wise, you are wise for yourself, but if you scoff, you alone will bear it” (Proverbs 9:12).

Trump vs. Courts

A federal appeals court has ruled against former President Donald Trump's claim of absolute immunity from lawsuits related to the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021. The court's decision rejects Trump's defense, paving the way for legal action by riot victims. This precedent holds ex-presidents accountable for their actions and susceptible to being charged (and convicted) once they are out of office.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court is deliberating on whether Trump's role in the riot disqualifies him from future office. Justices' inquiries suggest sympathy toward Trump, signaling a potential rejection of challenges to his candidacy. This case's impact extends beyond Colorado, potentially shaping the 2024 election landscape.

The recent court decision rejecting absolute immunity resonates with the scriptures that leaders should be held accountable for their actions (Proverbs 11:21, Romans 13:1-5). The remnant understands that eternally, the only "absolute immunity" can be found through faith in Jesus, not any past or future position of worldly power, but by the unmerited grace given to us in Christ our Lord (Romans 3:22, Ephesians 2:8-9).

All individuals, regardless of their stature or position, bear accountability for their actions both in the eyes of God and society (Romans 14:12). Scripture commands us to look at all, including our favorite and least favorite candidates, with impartiality, as God does (James 2:1-4, Romans 2:11).

Biden Escapes Prosecution

Special counsel Robert Hur concluded his investigation into President Joe Biden's handling of classified documents, opting not to prosecute due to Biden’s “significantly limited” memory, despite finding evidence of willful retention and disclosure. Biden expressed relief at being cleared of criminal charges and emphasized his cooperation with the investigation. However, criticisms arose over the report's characterization of Biden's memory issues, with the President himself disputing the accuracy and appropriateness of such language.

While we should all agree that it is not appropriate to charge a person with diminished mental capacity and who therefore is unable to govern themselves in such a way that they do not willfully commit a crime, it should be an even greater point of agreement that such a person should not be entrusted with the responsibility to govern others (Proverbs 22:3). This is especially obvious when the leader’s powers allow him to declare war and unleash nuclear weapons. A failure to deal honestly with this reality says as much about our mental health as it does the President's (James 4:17). A nation that does not acknowledge the truth (Ephesians 4:25) will not act on the truth (Jeremiah 9:5-9), and a nation that does not act on the truth will not long exist (Proverbs 12:19). We should have compassion for those who have lost their strength (Proverbs 20:29), but we should be convicted if we refuse to acknowledge uncomfortable realities simply because it is uncomfortable for us (Jeremiah 1:17).

People who have the courage to speak the truth will, in the end, be more celebrated than those who speak today with a flattering tongue (Proverbs 28:23). People who rejoice at the suffering or failures of others will soon find themselves in a similar place (Proverbs 17:5; Obadiah 12). Now is not the time to mock the president; it is time to minister to him (Galatians 6:2).

Whatever one chooses to believe about President Biden's policies, many of which stand in direct conflict with God's Word, it is long past time for a watching public to directly confront the reality that he is not able to "discharge the powers and duties of his office." We should be praying that those near the President courageously confront the problem (Proverbs 27:5-6) and act with wisdom for the good of both Biden and our country.
