Immigration, Israel, Abortion

Texas Doubles Down

Texas Governor Greg Abbott is determined to continue the battle over razor wire along the U.S.-Mexico border despite the Supreme Court's ruling allowing Border Patrol agents to cut it while a lawsuit is ongoing. Abbott views the razor wire as an effective deterrent to illegal crossings encouraged by the Biden administration. The court's temporary order has sparked a standoff between Texas and the Biden administration at the border. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton expressed his intention to defend the state's sovereignty. The Department of Homeland Security argued that the razor wire hampers agents' abilities to assist migrants and complicates apprehensions. The legal dispute began in October, and Texas has also installed floating barriers and allowed troopers to arrest migrants on trespassing charges, actions challenged by the administration in federal court.

Governments that fail to prosecute lawlessness are an offense to God and man (Proverbs 24:24-25). When a government is not "an avenger who brings wrath on the one who practices evil," it is not "a minister of God to its people for good" (Romans 13:4). "Those who forsake the law praise the wicked, but those who keep the law strive with them. Evil men do not understand justice, but those who seek the LORD understand all things" (Proverbs 28:4-5). As is evidenced by numerous examples, we have long lived in a land governed by those who do not seek the Lord when it comes to protecting life, protecting borders, protecting children, and protecting righteousness as described in God's Word. As such, we live in a land that will assuredly not only have increasing instability (Proverbs 28:2) but one that, without repentance, will soon perish (Isaiah 60:12).

It is good that a state like Texas has a legislature and governor that are doing what they can to restrict the flow of illegal immigration.

Monday's Supreme Court decision allows federal agents to have access to our nation's border, but it says nothing that denies the state of Texas from enforcing its laws or using concertina wire to protect its property. For Texas to be in compliance with the Supreme Court at this moment, it only needs to allow federal authorities to have access to the border. There is nothing immoral or in violation of the ruling that prohibits the state of Texas from returning those illegally entering the state back to the place from which they came. It is immoral for the federal government to fail to do its job (Isaiah 5:20, Proverbs 28:15).

ICE's primary mission is to protect national security, public safety, and the integrity of the U.S. borders through the criminal and civil enforcement of federal laws governing border control, customs, trade, and immigration. The primary mission of the Border Patrol is to protect our Nation by reducing the likelihood that dangerous people and capabilities enter the United States between the ports of entry. When Border Patrol agents or federal immigration and custom enforcement agents are forbidden from doing their job, we have a "king" who is committing "wicked acts" (Proverbs 16:12).

The remnant must continue to advocate for laws that maintain order and bring justice for all people (Micah 6:8). In humility, pray for governors who have to deal with inept federal leaders and pray for federal leaders who are advocating for wicked acts. How are you advocating for justice, leading others to love kindness, and teaching others to walk humbly with the Lord (2 Timothy 2:2)?

Israel Hostage Deal

Palestinian militants, in the deadliest attack since the Hamas raid triggering the conflict, killed 21 Israeli soldiers. Subsequently, ground forces encircled Khan Younis, Gaza’s second largest city, a significant move in the ongoing conflict. Prime Minister Netanyahu mourned the soldiers but expressed determination for "absolute victory."

Israel has proposed a multi-phase deal to Hamas, offering up to a two-month pause in fighting in exchange for the release of remaining hostages in Gaza. The proposal, considered the longest ceasefire offer since the conflict began, awaits a response from Hamas and includes specific phases for the release of hostages and potential IDF redeployment.

The conflict, with over 25,000 fatalities and extensive destruction, faces international pressure for a ceasefire and Israel's intent to expand operations continues to draw criticism.

We must remember that the conflict we continue to watch unfold is far more than a land dispute. Hamas has declared that they are not seeking, and will not be satisfied by, the “return” of the land. They seek the destruction of Israel, the complete annihilation of the Jews. This is a terrorist group that continues to hold Israeli men, women, and children hostage, and exposes thousands of others who are trapped with them in Gaza to the innumerable dangers of war, as well as starvation, lack of medical care, displacement, etc.

Israel is right to seek the immediate release of their citizens. They are right to exhaust every reasonable effort in the hopes of securing their return (Romans 13:2). Governments have both a right and a responsibility to seek to destroy the evildoers in their midst (Psalm 101:8).

The remnant should continually be praying for and seeking wisdom for those leading nations and suffering under their leadership, even if they may not support them (Proverbs 8:11-12). May the Lord also use His people to act for justice (Micah 6:8), while entrusting vengeance to God (Deuteronomy 32:34-35), and defend the rights of the afflicted and needy (Proverbs 31:8-9).

Biden/Harris Abortion Campaign

President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, joined by their spouses, made their first joint appearance in Virginia, launching a campaign for abortion rights—a key Democratic focus for the upcoming election. This event follows Harris' commemoration of the 51st anniversary of Roe v. Wade in Wisconsin, highlighting the Democrats' emphasis on "personal liberty and healthcare crises" resulting from restrictive abortion measures. Meanwhile, the Biden campaign strategically releases an emotional ad featuring a Texas OB-GYN, blaming former President Trump for state abortion bans.

When people tell you their aims, believe them. This administration is telling the public that a vote for them is a vote for nationwide pro-choice initiatives. If the Democratic party is successful, access to abortion would be without restriction, and states would no longer be allowed to protect those in the womb.

The celebration of and accessibility to abortion highlights the moral decline of a society. The fact that a major political party believes it is a "winning issue" should deeply trouble us (Psalm 12:8). Scripture tells us that a truthful witness saves lives (Proverbs 14:25). Calling evil "good" and good "evil" is where the true loss is found. "Winning" comes when a land rejoices in truth (Isaiah 5:20, 1 Corinthians 13:6) not when it mocks it. (Psalm 50:22)

It was the crowd that wanted Jesus crucified and Barabbas freed. (Luke 23:17-19 Remember, “pure and undefiled religion involves taking care of the children, the fatherless, and widows in need and to keep oneself unstained from the world (James 1:27). Pure evil destroys the weak and powerless, and in this case, we see pure evil offering access to evil to voters so they can stay in power.

The remnant cannot support such wickedness. Just as important as standing against evil is God’s call for us to model goodness. (1 Peter 3:16) May the remnant move toward mothers in need and children in danger with the same grace and compassion the Lord Jesus offers us every day. (Psalm 103:13).
