Antisemitism Act, Momala, Frat Boys Flag

“I never saw a fruit-bearing Christian who was not a student of the Bible.”

Antisemitism Awareness Act

The "Antisemitism Awareness Act" passed the House with a vote of 320-91. This legislation aims to address antisemitism on college campuses by requiring the Department of Education to enforce anti-discrimination laws using the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance's (IHRA) working definition of antisemitism.

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) condemned antisemitism but criticized the bill, arguing that the legislation lacked "constitutional and common sense considerations." He contended that the bill's definition of antisemitism could encompass passages from the Bible, such as those referring to Jews' involvement in Jesus' death.

There are bad faith players in this conversation that span across the political aisle, so it's important to bring biblical and historical context to this topic.

Who Killed Jesus?

To exclude any of those three would be to ignore part of the Gospel story and historical fact. However, to solely focus on one of the three (and especially ignore the other two), or use a historical fact as an excuse to target a people with prejudice and hate, cannot be justified by the Christian ethic (1 Corinthians 13:2).

Many outsiders of the faith have used point #1 as an excuse to espouse their unique hatred toward Jews and Israelis (and never consider themselves as part of #3). Many who over-emphasize #1 rarely include the fact that Jesus was a Jew (John 4:9 along with the fact that nearly every book of the Bible (Old and New Testaments) has been confirmed to have been written by Jewish authors.

Jesus modeled on the cross how we should treat those who hate Him, "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do" (Luke 23:34). In the same way that you can say "Christ is King" and mean two different things, so too can it be said of the facts surrounding Jews' involvement in Christ's crucifixion. May the Remnant be a people who always speak truth and have righteous intentions in all we do (James 3:17).

The Lord will judge all words and deeds rightly, as well as the heart behind it all (Matthew 12:36-37, Proverbs 21:2). We are all born in Adam, Jew, and Gentile alike, and in the second Adam do we find new life where there is neither Jew nor Gentile, for we are all one in Christ Jesus (1 Corinthians 15:45, Galatians 3:28).

We Need “Momala”

During a recent interview with Vice President Kamala Harris, Drew Barrymore sparked a viral moment. On the 29th of April, Harris appeared on "The Drew Barrymore Show" to discuss her family with husband and Second Gentleman, Doug Emhoff. Harris shared about being a stepmom to Emhoff's two children, Cole and Ella Emhoff, whom he shares with ex-wife Kerstin Emhoff. During the interview, Harris mentioned that their family doesn't use the term "step" and prefers to call her "Momala" instead. Drew expressed her concern for the country's current chaotic state and asked Kamala to be the country's "Momala."

Drew is correct in pointing out that our nation is in chaos. We have turned away from a Juedeo-Christian ethic and embraced evil. It should not come as a surprise that we are experiencing chaos, as Scripture says, "When the righteous increase, the people rejoice, but when a wicked person rules, people groan" (Proverbs 29:2).

It is not a requirement to be a mother to exhibit maternal qualities. However, obedience to Scripture is a requirement for godly womanhood (1 John 2:4-6). The nation does not need another “mother” or ruler who praises evil (Isaiah 5:20).

According to Proverbs 31:26, a godly woman speaks wisdom. Kamala's advocacy for LGBTQ+ and abortion contradicts the attributes of a godly woman and rather reflects God's judgment on a nation. John Calvin wrote: "When God wants to judge a nation, He gives them wicked rulers."

The country does not need a "mother" who hates Christ. Instead, we need our true Father, Christ, who brings peace.

Frat Boys Raise $ for Flag

Frat boys at UNC-Chapel Hill made headlines after they were photographed protecting the American flag amidst Pro-Palestine campus protests. The fraternity brothers were inspired not to let the flag touch the ground after protestors were allegedly attempting to replace it with a Palestinian flag. Their actions prompted the creation of a GoFundMe titled "Pi Kappa Phi Men Defended Their Flag. Throw 'em a Rager," initially aiming for $15,000 but surpassed $500,000 within two days. The GoFundMe states the donations would fund "the party they deserve." When the funds began to exceed the initial goal, the creators shared that some of the money would also go to charity.

Bravery is rewarded (Hebrews 10:35). But it is an interesting day for our nation and indicative of where the "bar" exists when $500,000 is easily crowd-funded for a group of young men keeping the American flag off the ground. It is even more indicative when those funds were raised under the banner of throwing a "rager." While the GoFundMe may have been creatively written, its intentions are sorely misguided. And while these young men have done something admirable in respect to the flag, it is by no means license to behave in the unadmirable manner excessive alcohol use tends to lead to (Proverbs 20:1). The party itself has not happened, even though a professional party planner has been retained, so we hope these young men and the party-goers exhibit wisdom and restraint while having fun and celebrating something that may seem excessive but is remarkable nonetheless. May our nation see fit to reward godly behavior, true bravery, and loyalty in more generous ways than demonstrated here.

We can pray that revival reaches UNC-Chapel Hill in the same way it's reaching college campuses across the nation, most recently in Tennessee, through UniteUS. If you're looking to marvel at or fund something incredible happening on college campuses, maybe we can get UniteUS to North Carolina in time.
