Secret Service Resignation, MrBeast Abuse Allegations, SBC Leadership Disruption

Secret Service Director Resigns
Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle resigned following an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump at a Pennsylvania rally, amid ongoing investigations and heightened political tensions. She admitted to significant security failures during the House Oversight Committee hearing, but declined to answer several questions. She faced bipartisan calls to resign, and ultimately was faced with articles of impeachment and an impending vote before her decision to resign was made.
Accountability in leadership is crucial for wisdom, integrity, and the flourishing of a people (Proverbs 11:14, Proverbs 15:22, Proverbs 29:2). Former Director Cheatle made the right decision following the “colossal failure” of her organization. While many congressional committees have failed to accomplish, or even scrutinize, the right thing, this one was right to examine and question those responsible for the injury and loss of life that took place in Pennsylvania.
When “diversity,” “equity,” and “inclusion” are prioritized over skill, wisdom, expertise, and readiness, you will not like the outcome. Tragically, this time, the cost was infinitely higher than mere numbers, dollars, or market results.
May we heed the warning of Ecclesiastes 8:11 and quickly execute, and even demand, the sentence of judgment against this kind of life-costing, life-threatening incompetence lest more hearts become “fully set,” and enabled, “to do evil.”

MrBeast Star Faces Abuse Allegations
Kris Tyson, a former co-host of MrBeast's YouTube channel, is accused* of forming an inappropriate relationship with a minor who won an online competition when the minor was 13 and Tyson was 20. Despite the minor, now an adult, defending Tyson and denying any exploitation, several controversial past posts from Tyson have resurfaced, showing his sexualizing cartoon children. The scandal has sparked significant uproar on social media, with MrBeast yet to release an official statement.

Sometimes it's painful to say, "I told you so" (Ezekiel 33:33). In one of the earliest editions of the remnant news, written exactly one year ago today, I wrote these words. "Parents should be aware of the immense popularity of "MrBeast" and the public transitioning of one of his channel's most recognizable and popular friends. While "Mr. Beast/Jimmy Donaldson's" content is mostly family-friendly, the transitioning and endorsement of a man who believes he is a woman is problematic and undoubtedly will cause confusion for the children who consume his content (Proverbs 22:6). One of the ways to condition (groom) others to increasingly accept inappropriate behavior is to move the boundaries of normalcy and remain silent or act as if nothing odd is happening. Chris Tyson's transition to Ava is not normal and is tragic for him, his ex-wife, his two-year-old son, and anyone else who isn't keenly aware of the consequences of his decision." To read the rest of the warnings and admonitions that are just as true today- and will be true 5,000 years from now as they were one year ago (Isaiah 40:8), read here.
God's remnant can take no joy in watching others suffer as they bear the inevitable fruits of their foolishness (Proverbs 24:17-18) even while we must remain steadfast in our commitment to continually warn others of the certain trouble that will come as they scoff at the goodness of God and His way (Psalm 10:4-11). It has been wisely said and tragically illustrated in this story that "sin will take you farther than you want to go, keep you longer than you want to stay, and cost you more than you want to pay." Stop now and pray for Tyson that his current trouble will bring him to his senses and lead him to a place where he will seek the forgiveness and grace of Christ that delivers all of us from the "payment" due for our sins (Romans 6:23).
Finally, evaluate where you are transitioning away from fidelity to Christ (Psalm 139:23-24) and remain steadfast in your commitment to not allow yourself to be groomed by the seductions of this world (2 Timothy 2:22). God kindly reminds us early in Genesis that sin is "crouching at our door, seeking someone to devour" (Genesis 4:7), and the great Puritan pastor JC Ryle describes the horrifying progression of trifling with it, "First, it startles him; then it becomes pleasing, then easy, then delightful, then frequent, then habitual, then a way of life! Then the man feels no guilt, then obstinate, then resolves never to repent, and then is damned." Stay alert, friends (1 Corinthians 16:13).

SBC Leadership Changes
In a bizarre development, the Southern Baptist Convention's (SBC) Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission (ERLC) announced the firing of ERLC President Brent Leatherwood on Sunday, only to reverse the decision on Monday. This abrupt action followed Leatherwood's recent praise for President Biden, stating, "We should all express our appreciation that President Biden has put the needs of the nation above his personal ambition." Leatherwood continued, "Despite what some partisans will say, to walk away from power is a selfless act – the kind that has become all too rare in our culture."
The ERLC's executive committee later clarified that board chair Kevin Smith acted independently without holding a formal vote. Smith admitted his error, resigning with the following statement: "I was convinced in my mind that we had [a] consensus… I acted in good faith, but without a formal vote of the Executive Committee. This was an error on my part, and I accept responsibility."
Leatherwood is right that walking away from power can be a selfless act. Consider Jesus' and Moses' examples (Philippians 2:5-8, Deuteronomy 31:7-8). But is this what our current President has done?
According to reports, Democratic donors, delegates, the media, and other political powerbrokers pushed Joe Biden out of the 2024 race due to collapsing poll numbers after a disastrous debate in late June. To say he willingly "walked away from power" would be, at best, to say too much and, at worst, bearing false witness (Exodus 20:16).
Instead of praising Biden for yielding to political pressure, one could wisely question, "If he is not fit to run for the Oval Office again, is he fit to run the Oval Office now?"— especially given the Biden Administration's repeated lies about his precipitous cognitive decline. Disdain for falsehoods from halls of power is hardly a "partisan" response – instead, "love rejoices with the truth" (1 Corinthians 13:6).
A practical move? Yes. A moral one? No.
We are called to speak the truth in love, but we must never sacrifice truth for the approval of man (Galatians 1:10). May it never be said that we "love the glory that comes from man more than the glory that comes from God" (John 12:43).
The ERLC, when operating at its most faithful, does godly work that is often overlooked or unknown. We need God-honoring, truth-speaking, people-loving, biblically-minded leaders to continue that great work, prioritizing bringing glory to Him and not those on a particular side of the political aisle (Colossians 3:23-24). We need a church that will unite around Jesus, His Gospel, the Great Commission, and the truth more than anything else (Philippians 2:2, Romans 1:16, Matthew 28:19-20, John 17:17).
