Biden Scrutiny Continues, Election Security Measures, One Year of TRN

Biden Scrutiny Continues

President Biden continues to face scrutiny following the debate and his subsequent ABC interview. The Biden family and the White House have doubled down in their effort to communicate his commitment to the 2024 election. Over the weekend, two radio hosts have come forward, sharing that Biden’s team made requests regarding the questions asked in interviews. Videos and sound bytes circulate around the internet and social media accounts, highlighting his various public guffaws.

The Bible is clear about how to treat elders (Leviticus 19:32, 1 Timothy 5:1-2). It is equally clear about the institution of government (Romans 13:1-2), the authority of God over leaders (Proverbs 8:15-16, Daniel 2:21), and our subjection to them (Titus 3:1).

In our modern age, mainstream media influences much of what we know and how we think, and as such, it is often difficult to discern what is true from what media outlets on both sides of the aisle want us to think is true. However, in this case, it is both apparent and obvious, based on numerous public appearances, that those close to our president do not seem to be prioritizing respect and honor for their aging husband/father/candidate over their desire to stay in power alongside him. This will not bode well for them or us (Hosea 8:7).

As important as the ability of our president to practice diplomacy, answer questions, and operate after sunset is the ability to discern good from evil, life from death, and wisdom from folly (Isaiah 5:20), and tragically, these are things we know for sure that President Biden and his administration and party proudly lacks attentiveness to. We should pray for the enlightenment of their mind and the darkness to be lifted from their understanding (Ephesians 4:18) as well as continually remind ourselves of our responsibility to continually elect wise leaders (Hosea 8:4), minister to the electorate (Matthew 5:13-16), advocate for good (Jeremiah 29:7), and pray for those in authority (1 Timothy 2:1-2).

Election Security Measures

House Democrats, led by Minority Whip Katherine Clark, are vehemently opposing the Republican-backed Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act (SAVE Act), requiring proof of U.S. citizenship for federal election voting. Clark's office has instructed Democrats to reject the bill, citing concerns about voter burdens and registration restrictions. Conversely, House Republicans, led by Speaker Mike Johnson, argue the bill closes loopholes and safeguards election integrity, pointing to instances of non-citizens removed from voter rolls in various states.

In another development, Wisconsin's newly elected liberal-majority state Supreme Court has reversed a conservative decision from two years ago, allowing the widespread use of ballot drop boxes ahead of the upcoming election. Dissenting justices criticize the decision as politically motivated, while others speculate this move may impact the swing state's electoral security in 2024.

It shouldn't be partisan to assert that (only) American citizens should vote in American elections (only). Likewise, it should be agreed upon that our officials should make every effort to protect the voting process from bad-faith actors.

The Bible doesn't address U.S. election laws, but it teaches us the importance of upholding values of honesty, fairness, and accountability and calls for righteousness in leadership (Proverbs 20:23, Romans 13:1-7). In this development, the GOP advocates for measures to prevent potential fraud and ensure fairness, whereas Democrats push for relaxed controls.

"Elections have consequences..." and those consequences impact both current policies and future elections. Christians must resist the pitfalls when thinking through policies and politics, advocate for what aligns closest to justice according to God, and trust Christ above any politician or platform (Romans 12:2, Micah 6:8, Proverbs 3:5-6).
