Tragedy in Gaza, McConnell to Step Down, Biden/Trump at the Border

I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen: not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.

Aid Convoy Tragedy in Gaza

All eyes are on Israel after there was an aid convoy tragedy in Gaza. The Palestinian health ministry out of Gaza is reporting that at least 112 people were killed and 760 injured as Israeli Defense Forces opened fire. The IDF alleged they were responding to fire by militants and disputed claims that warnings were not given to civilians ahead of the incident. At this time conflicting accounts of the event have been offered, and the injury and fatality numbers have not been independently corroborated.

Propaganda is more powerful than conventional weapons because it changes the hearts of the citizens who support, and the armies who use, the weapons necessary to win a war. The enemy of our Lord is the father of propaganda (John 8:44), and the devil’s servants have continued to employ his tactic ever since (John 8:48-49, Nehemiah 6:6-9). Only when the God of all armies rules will we learn the full Truth about all things (Ecclesiastes 12:13, John 8:50). While we have come to know the Truth about Jesus through His resurrection (Romans 1:4), we do not yet know the truth about this incident.

Here is what we do know:

1.) News agencies are not allowed to operate in Gaza as they are in Western democracies. Reporters are not allowed to freely report what they discover as Hamas, a known terrorist organization, tightly regulates who and what makes its way out of Gaza to international airwaves.

3.) Media agencies do more than report the news; they use the news to influence you.

Enemies of truth always lie, and followers of truth must never forget that “the first to plead their case seems just until another comes to examine him” (Proverbs 18:17). Our job is to be aware of our own biases and tendency to believe the first thing we hear, and even more, our tendency to quickly repeat it (Proverbs 18:8, 20:19). The most dangerous propaganda used to discourage the remnant every day is the lie that God is not good, His Word cannot be trusted and that disobedience to Him is not that big of deal. These lies are as old as time (Genesis 3:1-7) and just as effective in getting humanity to bite the apple of deception today as they were the first time they were used. Our enemy still lurks (1 Peter 5:8).

The antidote to lies is:

Truth learned (Proverbs 4:5).

Truth embraced (Proverbs 7:4).

Truth meditated on (Psalm 1:2).

Truth acted on (Joshua 1:8).

The remnant always remembers that Truth sets free (John 8:32while propaganda divides and destroys (Proverbs 16:28).

Love the Truth. (John 14:6)

McConnell To Step Down

Mitch McConnell, the longest-serving Republican leader in the US Senate, has announced his resignation plans effective November. McConnell cited the need to "move on" during his address to the Senate, emphasizing his intention to continue serving out his term until January 2027 but from a different role. Despite health concerns, McConnell affirmed his commitment to continue working, stating he still has the energy to defy critics. His departure marks the end of an era characterized by his savvy navigation of Republican priorities and alliances, although his relationship with former President Trump soured in recent years over policy differences and election disputes. McConnell's resignation prompts speculation about his successor among potential candidates such as John Cornyn, John Barrasso, and John Thune.

Wise leaders recognize when it is appropriate to step aside (Ecclesiastes 3:1-3). Whether McConnell's decision comes at an opportune moment or is overdue, transitions in leadership offer both opportunities for progress and setbacks as families, governments, and churches rise and fall with the leaders they choose (Proverbs 29:2).

Just as we pray for the Democratic party and its members to repent of their amoral positions and to align with the values of the Kingdom, we extend the same prayer for the GOP, where it is out of step with wisdom and truth.

If our nation is to embody justice and faithfulness, it must begin with the Lord reinstating upright judges, wise counselors, and leaders reminiscent of times past (Isaiah 1:26), which is why the work of the remnant is so crucial to our nation's well-being. Politics (government) is downstream of culture, and culture is an expression of the hearts and values embraced by the people (Hosea 4:1-6). Our best hope is that Godly people share the light and hope of Christ with their neighbors until entire neighborhoods, cities, counties, and states are filled with an electorate that loves only wise, righteous, and faithful leaders (2 Timothy 4:5).

Biden and Trump at the Border

President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump made dueling trips to the U.S-Mexico border on Thursday. Biden ventured to Brownsville, Texas, while Trump went to Eagle Pass. The visits came on the heels of a wave of violent crime committed by illegal immigrants within the U.S. this year. With these types of immigration concerns on the rise, the border visits highlighted the issue's significance within the upcoming election.

One of the chief issues with the discussion surrounding U.S. immigration resonates in the made-up choice between "loving others" and the "letter of the law." God's Word, however, sees no conflict between just laws, protected borders, and kindness toward all men. Nowhere in Scripture are justice and kindness considered mutually exclusive; instead, they are taught as righteous and complementary principles. Micah 6:8 urges us to "do justice" and "love kindness," emphasizing the importance of both in our interactions with others.

As more and more individuals continue to flood across our border, tragic stories of crimes committed by Godless trespassers continue to pile up. It is the God-given responsibility of government, irrespective of party or person, to prosecute evil and uphold justice (1 Peter 2:13-15). The job of the believer is to embody God's kindness and love (John 13:34-35) while never forgetting that kindness should not be misconstrued as condoning or enabling unrighteous behavior (1 Corinthians 13:6).

As the remnant navigates the complexities of U.S. immigration policy, we must pray that our nation's leaders employ Biblical wisdom to create laws that allow individuals to lawfully enter U.S. lands who will act as righteous "sojourners" among us, embracing our nation's laws and not troublesome "foreigners" who bring destruction. While God's Church evangelizes and disciples (Matthew 28:19-20) both natural-born citizens and immigrants, the government must consistently enforce laws equally to all (Leviticus 19:13-14, 1 Peter 2:13). Achieving this balance will only come through an acknowledgment of the complementary roles of government and the Church, both of which are ordained by God to promote order and goodness in the world (1 Chronicles 29:11-12).
