Trump and Abortion, MAHA, Israeli-American Hostage Dead

Trump flip-flops on FL Pro-Life Amendment

Donald Trump's shifting stance on Florida's "abortion rights" ballot amendment, Amendment 4, has sparked significant backlash from pro-life activists. Initially, Trump suggested he might support the amendment, which would enshrine abortion rights in the state constitution. However, following criticism, he reversed his position, declaring his opposition to the amendment. This controversy highlights Trump's broader challenges on abortion, especially after the fall of Roe v. Wade. While Trump has taken credit for ending Roe and returning abortion decisions to the states, his inconsistent positions—such as criticizing bans and previously supporting a national ban—reflect his struggle to balance appealing to both pro-choice voters and his conservative base.

Biology tells us when life begins, and the Bible tells us how valuable it is to God. The Declaration of Independence states that it is the first and foremost right. The Constitution protects it in the 14th Amendment

Those who seek to protect vulnerable lives in the womb should be thankful for the strides made during Trump's first administration and should be concerned at his increasingly weak convictions as he campaigns for a second. No man is above criticism when it is earned (Proverbs 28:23). By sending mixed messaging on such an important issue, it appears that Donald Trump is intent on sawing off the branch he sits on, politically and morally. For a closer look at how the GOP has intentionally been weakening and reshaping its position on this issue, refer to our previous remnant response

A christian should not be tethered to a particular party or candidate, and the remnant must speak boldly and loudly when fidelity to wisdom and the protection of life is trifled with. The Gospel does not hinge on campaign promises or election outcomes, but the remnant's ability to support a particular candidate might. One day, we will all give an account for our words and actions, and that includes our politicians (2 Corinthians 5:10). It's a good thing when politicians feel pressure to honor their voters' convictions. It's a better thing when our politicians honor God as they seek to lead a nation (Proverbs 16:12).

It is Christ or chaos. Conservatism, or any political stance, should be measured by its adherence to God's standards, and we need to constantly remind ourselves that any abandonment of God's will and way is always costly (Matthew 12:25). As C.S. Lewis quipped, "There is but one good; that is God. Everything else is good when it looks to Him and bad when it turns from Him."  Politicians may turn, but the remnant must remain steadfast (Deuteronomy 5:32).

Make America Healthy Again

In the wake of the RFK endorsement of Trump, mainstream media has had a large array of responses. What some are calling the “MAHA” movement (Make America Healthy Again) has magazines like Time releasing articles advocating for ultra-processed foods and democrats at large doubling down on things like “reproductive healthcare,” the DNC and Harris sending millions to “down-ballot” campaigns, and brought to light some of the inconsistencies of their party’s “commitment” to healthcare and health.

The democratic party has unequivocally distinguished themselves as the party of death.  Their position on life in the womb alone proclaims as much. When your presidential candidate launches a 50-stop bus tour to promote their commitment to the unlimited right to destroy future generations on the heels of promoting male sterilization and abortions at their national conventions, it is safe to say that their intentions are clear.

While it is true that both the Republican and Democratic parties have contributed to our nation's health crisis and that neither party has shown sufficient courage to speak with consistency about health in the womb and out, the democratic platform and positions continue to distinguish themselves as untenable to the biblical worldview.

The remnant has the unique blessing of knowing what leads to spiritual health (1 Timothy 4:8, Proverbs 4:23), mental health (Philippians 4:8, Isaiah 26:3), emotional health (Psalm 34:17-18), AND physical health (Proverbs 3:7-8, 1 Corinthians 6:19-20), as revealed to us clearly in Scripture.

While it is fair to say that both parties have been complicit to America's growing dependency on pharmaceuticals and chemically engineered food sources, it is also clear that the party that openly endorses, celebrates, and subsidizes murder is worse than the one that wrestles with the government's role in legislating access… and to be clear, both fall short of the clarity given to us by Scripture, science, logic, and basic morality.

It is good to seek and even demand accountability from our leaders, agencies, and corporations. But while the remnant does, they should also find themselves busy stewarding their own health to the degree God gives it to them (1 Corinthians 10:31), serving neighbors and communities with a clear lack of access to health services and affordable food (Matthew 25:35-36, Proverbs 19:17, James 1:27), and considering ways they can push back against the destroyer as he seeks to have his way on earth (Ephesians 6:12-13, 2 Corinthians 10:4-5).

Israeli-American Hostage Dead

Hersh Goldberg-Polin, a 23-year-old dual U.S.-Israeli citizen who loved soccer, music, and travel, was one of the hostages taken by Hamas on October 7, 2023. Despite his parents' tireless advocacy and public pleas for his release, Goldberg-Polin's body was found in a tunnel in Gaza, with his death attributed to Hamas. His passing has sparked widespread grief and tributes from communities across the U.S., with thousands having gathered where he had become a symbol of hope during his captivity. His parents, along with others, continue to advocate for the release of the remaining hostages.

While the rest of the world has moved on from the “hostage story,” the sad news coming out of the Middle East last week is a sober reminder that many are still suffering and dying. We can all be thankful that while humans suffer from compassion fatigue, seeming indifference to others enduring suffering, or show an inability to stay focused on last week's evil, the Lord’s eyes are never closed to human pain (Psalm 102:19-20). Take a moment now and ask the Lord to remind you of the many around you who have experienced loss or who live with chronic pain or difficulty. Call them. Pray with them. Serve them. Be God’s hands and feet to those taken hostage by trouble that most have long forgotten.
